JF&CS of North Jersey recognizes the population of aging Holocaust
survivors within our community. The agency is one of 13 Jewish Family
Service Agencies throughout New Jersey that shares a grant from
the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, Inc.,
to provide services to Holocaust survivors. Aging brings many challenging
changes to one's life. As daily activities decrease, time to think
and reflect increases. Those who have experienced the traumas of
the Shoah are again faced with memories of losses and terrible life
experiences. The grant provides financial support to provide a number
of services Holocaust survivors and their families.
-
Holocaust Homemaker Assistance Program
Now in its sixth year, this program provides subsidized in-home
services for Holocaust survivors who resided in Nazi-occupied
countries between 1933-1945, meet financial guidelines, and are
in need of home health aid services. A JF&CS social worker will
meet with the applicant in his/her home to discuss his/her needs
and eligibility. All homemakers and home health aids are provided
through New Jersey licensed home care agencies, under contract
with JF&CS.
-
Group Services
The Claims Conference has provided additional funds for group
services. JF&CS offers monthly group sessions in our Fair Lawn
office for social networking and discussion on various topics.
Van transportation is available.
- Second
Generation Group
Each year, JF&CS provides a support group for children of Holocaust
survivors. An experienced clinical social worker facilitates discussion
among the participants, who share their concerns for their parents,
themselves, and often, their children as well. It is reassuring
to many that their life experiences, thoughts and concerns are
shared by others.
